The European Parliament approved an emergency program of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine to maintain its economic and financial stability in the face of escalation from Russia.

According to Deutsche Welle , 598 MEPs voted for it at a plenary session in Strasbourg today, 55 voted against, 41 more abstained.

It is noted that for the entry into force of this program, the Council of the EU still has to vote for it.

Recall, on January 24, the European Commission announced a new macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 1.2 billion euros. The corresponding assistance will be divided into two tranches of 600 million euros each.

Earlier it became known that the first tranche of aid to Ukraine, the EU will accrue subject to the implementation of the IMF program.

Rostyslav Shurma, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, said that in order to stabilize the financial system, Ukraine  plans to receive loans for at least $3 billion .
