Ukraine is waiting for the start of negotiations on membership in the European Union already this month.
The European Commission supports the start of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU. Radio Svoboda journalist Rikard Jozvyak reported this on Twitter .
“As expected, the European Commission confirms that Ukraine and Moldova have fully completed all steps to start negotiations,” he wrote.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal also confirmed that the European Commission supports the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The Prime Minister added that Ukraine is grateful for the positive assessment of our European integration progress.
“The announced conclusion of the EC states that Ukraine continues systematic efforts to join the EU and has completed all 4 additional reform steps,” Shmyhal noted.
According to him, Ukraine now expects the next step from its European partners — the start of negotiations on membership in the European Union already this month.
“Every day, the Ukrainian people choose the right to be part of the European family in the war against the Russian aggressor,” Shmyhal said.
Ukraine’s entry into the EU – what you need to know
As UNIAN reported, on December 14, 2023, the leaders of the EU member states decided to start negotiations with Ukraine on joining the Union . They recommended that the European Commission approve the organizational aspects for the negotiations, also known as the negotiating framework.
The negotiating framework on the organizational aspects of negotiations should be approved in June . The EU wants to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership by July 1, when Hungary will assume the position of chairman of the EU Council .
For its part, Ukraine had to practically implement a number of laws and demonstrate progress in the fight against corruption. In particular, the Verkhovna Rada approved the necessary laws: on strengthening the independence of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, on strengthening the institutional capacity of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (provides for an increase in the maximum number of NABU staff from 700 to 1,000 people) and on enabling the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption to inspect the property of officials acquired before joining the civil service.
In addition, the Verkhovna Rada supported the introduction of amendments to some laws of Ukraine to take into account the expert assessment of the Council of Europe and its bodies regarding the rights of national minorities (communities) in certain areas (it is provided that privately owned higher education institutions have the right to freely choose the language of instruction, which is official language of the EU).
The Verkhovna Rada also approved the government bill “On virtuous lobbying”. This means that Ukraine will speed up its European integration, which involves bringing national legislation into line with European norms.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a war on. There’s general agreement that a country at war can’t be asked to join NATO.
In case you really haven’t read, Larry, which I doubt: There are suggestions for a solution to that problem. And also the possibility to guarantee Ukraine immediate membership in case of a peace deal, which would give the country a solid security insurance for the future. By xenying this now, Biden only signals to Putin that the US is not willing to confront aggressive dictators. This public cowardice only
enourages further attempts. The situation now requires less useless pacifism and more saber rattling, to keep the forces of evil at bay!
