Who gave Ukraine the Crotale?
Ukraine is receiving several new Crotale air-defense systems and missiles, and President Zelensky publicly confirmed the transfer while declining to name the donor country. I narrow the list to three realistic suspects: France, Finland, and Greece; and walk through the specific evidence pointing at each one, and land on my own probability breakdown for who actually sent them.
Zelensky said, “We received — I won’t say from which country — confirmation of the transfer of several Crotale air defense systems and missiles for them.”
Understanding where Crotale fits in Ukraine’s air-defense stack explains why an old French system still matters heading into winter.
Every September 11th I take a moment to think about how profoundly that event changed my life. I also reflect on the fallen from the U.S. and all of our allies who fought alongside us in the GWOT. Thank you for your sacrifice.
