The lower house of the German parliament (Bundestag) has failed to vote on the candidacy of Friedrich Merz as the new Chancellor.

During the first round, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union received 310 votes “Yes” out of the 316 required. At the same time, the coalition factions of the CDU/CSU and the SPD together have 328 seats in parliament, writes Taggesschau .
