This concept of “hunters” on UAVs is being developed from 2022, the expert noted.

The Armed Forces successfully use Yak-52 piston training aircraft to destroy Russian drones. One of these sorties was caught on the camera of the Zala enemy drone, which was used by Ukrainian fighters. Part of the recording is published on the network.

Military and political commentator Oleksandr Kovalenko reminded that Yak-52 pistons work behind Russian reconnaissance UAVs “Orlan-10”, Zala, Supercam and others, in particular in the Odesa region.

“Taking into account the fact that the Yak-52 itself does not have the ability to carry full-fledged weapons to destroy air targets, the functions of the gunner are performed by a passenger instead of an instructor pilot,” the expert noted. pilot and gunner, as well as on the board itself. Several strikes were carried out on Odessa with the aim of destroying this aircraft and its pilot. And to be completely honest, this concept of “hunters” has been working on UAVs since 2022, and since it was known to me for a long time, I regularly advocated replenishing the air fleet of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces with something more serious than the piston Yak-52, for example, the same turbo-prop SuperTucano and similar ones.”

According to Kovalenko, this concept of destroying reconnaissance UAVs with the help of light aviation is effective in a number of regions and regional centers, for example, in Dnipro: “But in Dnipro, for all the available possibilities, it has not been implemented.”

Ukrainian Yak-52 pilots shoot down Russian drones

Earlier it was reported how “Orlan-10” was destroyed from a training Yak-52 in Odesa . Analysts noted that the fact of their use indicates a lack of anti-aircraft systems and missiles, which is only now beginning to be corrected thanks to the unblocking of US support.

  1. This very much reminds of WWI, with the observers, behind the pilots, shooting at enemy planes. However, this propably is a more dangerous job than it looks like, since the risk of friendly fire must be high. Glory to those crews! 🖖🤨👍
