“Thank you for watching Russia bomb us”: the Polish military complained about a difficult night, but the Ukrainians did not appreciate it

The Polish army, after a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, announced “a long, tense night for the entire Polish air defense system.” The country’s military claims that it is “constantly monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine” and is “in constant readiness” to protect the skies over Poland, but the Ukrainians ridiculed such statements.

In particular, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces at 6:43 am on Saturday, June 1, responded to another massive shelling of Ukraine, during which the Russian Federation deployed one hundred missiles and Shaheds. Poland raised its aircraft due to the attack . “It was a long, busy night for the entire Polish air defense system,” the report said.

The department added that after the threat level of Russian missile strikes on Ukraine was reduced, the activities of Polish and allied aviation in Polish airspace were stopped , and “the deployed forces and assets returned to normal operations.”

“The Russian Federation launched a massive missile strike across the entire territory of Ukraine, including the regions bordering Poland. The strikes were carried out using cruise missiles, Shahed UAVs and ballistic missiles launched from the Black Sea. The Polish Army is constantly monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine and is in constant readiness to ensure the safety of Polish airspace,” the operational command said.

This statement caused a strong reaction from Ukrainians online. They accuse the Polish leadership of inaction and ironize that it is a “difficult night” for Polish air defense to simply watch the combat work of the Ukrainian defenders of the sky. Here are some of the comments:

– “Oh, poor guys. I’m sure watching the Russian missiles bomb us was so hard. Imagine if you decided to help us! It would probably lead to your mental breakdown”;

– “Apparently, it was so tiring to watch and do nothing”;

– “You are worthless”;

– “Thank you for watching the Russians bomb Ukraine. It must be very grueling”;

– Sorry. Maybe Ukraine can help you with something?”

It should be noted that the Polish army is armed with one of the most modern air defense systems – Patriot, as well as F-16 fighters.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the German newspaper BILD recently wrote that NATO is discussing the possibility of protecting the skies over the western regions of Ukraine using air defense systems of the alliance countries. It was Poland that initiated this idea.

Earlier, Poland responded to Kyiv’s request for help in destroying Russian missiles. The Polish Foreign Ministry said that this issue can be discussed, but many conditions must be taken into account.

According to the survey, 63% of the Polish population would like Polish air defense to shoot down Russian missiles in the border regions of Ukraine.

President Vladimir Zelensky has already stated: NATO could shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine if they fly in the direction of Western countries. A solution following the example adopted for Israel is possible, but desire is required, he emphasized.

And Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba says that no legal, moral or security arguments can prevent Western countries from shooting down Russian missiles from their territory over Ukraine. According to the minister, everyone who claims the opposite and talks about the threat of escalation is engaged in manipulation.

  1. Those poor, poor, poor Polish air force and air defense crews! My heart bleeds gallons of bitter compassion.

    For all the help that Poland gave Ukraine, there are certain aspects in their behavior that watered down those achievements quite a bit. For one, the countless border blockings, resulting in delays of vital goods and a loss of lots of money, and there were even a few deaths as a result. Second, the resultant negative impact on Ukrainian export agreements for the EU. Third, their cowardice along the border region, like during the past “difficult” night.
    I’ve come to the conclusion that Poland is not the kind of best friend to Ukraine that I always thought it was.

  2. I don’t see why Poland cannot destroy missiles, there not attacking Russia. If they had the capability to save Ukrainian lives without direct confrontation then do so.

    • Every sensible person thinks like that. Politicians, however, are not sensible people.
