Such a cancellation is currently in the national interests of the United States, Trump explained.

US President Donald Trump has lifted sweeping sanctions against Russian energy supplies under a law he signed in September.
These restrictions hampered his efforts to lower diesel prices ahead of the US midterm elections, Bloomberg reports . Trump invoked a waiver clause in a law sponsored by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
The publication clarified that this law was conceived as a tool to punish Russia for its war against Ukraine.
“I am waiving the application of the sanctions, restrictions, and tariffs provided for in the Graham Act. I have formally notified Congress that such waiver is in the national interest of the United States at this time,” Trump explained.Read also:
The bill gave Trump 30 days to impose 100% tariffs on all goods from the five largest buyers of Russian oil. It also included sanctions against numerous Russian companies and a 500% tariff on all Russian energy imports to the United States. This one-month deadline was set to expire tomorrow, October 18.
According to the document, the tariffs will formally remain in effect, but their application is suspended. This means Trump can reinstate them at any time if he wishes.
The order states that the sanctions waiver will remain in effect until Trump or senior officials in his administration determine that “further action is appropriate.”
The publication noted that the “Graham Act” was a hindrance to Trump, who announced an agreement with the Russian dictator on diesel supplies.
Moreover, the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions will help avoid a potential conflict with the largest buyers of Russian energy resources – China, India, and Turkey.
Analysts believe that ahead of the US midterm elections – in which Trump’s Republican Party is fighting to maintain a razor-thin majority in both houses of Congress – the introduction of sanctions could lead to a further rise in oil prices, Reuters writes .
The publication noted that US House of Representatives Democrat Don Baer criticized Trump for his decision to exercise his authority to lift sanctions, saying he was making concessions to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
“Trump’s latest capitulation to Putin is yet another betrayal of our Ukrainian partners and a disregard for the clear will of Congress, enshrined in legislation designed to punish Russia for its illegal war of aggression,” Bayer said in a statement.
Graham’s Law
The bill was authored by Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator and staunch supporter of Ukraine. He died on July 11, 2026, at the age of 71.
On July 10, Graham visited Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The passage of this law was a kind of tribute to the politician. During his lifetime, Graham repeatedly cited sanctions as a key tool that could force Putin to the negotiating table and end the war against Ukraine.

THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF AMERICA HAS LIFTED ALL SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT? TROOPS AND WEAPONS TO RUSSIA…………………..
THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!!
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the mango Mussolini started the illegal war on Iran to bring about a more favorable situation for his best buddy in the kremlin. Unfortunately, Graham was, and many other Republicans are, too naive to see this orange crook’s true desire to make mafia land great again. Most Republicans, however, are outright supporting him as long as they can stuff their pockets.
Trump has, like his friend Putin all the power. But Trump works only for Russia, no one can deny it anymore. See these latest acts. He is a full KGB agent, no thats no joke………………………
MOSCOW IS FULL OF JOY AFTER AMERICA CHOICE TO BE FULL WITH RUSSIA. THE WAR CAN NOW END SOON ON RUSSIANS TERMS. TRUMP IS PRAISED IN WHOLE RUSSIA!
