Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev lashed out at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz following media reports of a confidential conversation between leading European politicians regarding the war in Ukraine.
“Dear Merz, you’re not even in the game. You’ve discredited yourself with your warmongering, your peace-breaking, your unrealistic proposals, your suicide of Western civilization, your migration, and your stubborn stupidity,” the Russian wrote in a post on H.
What was discussed during the conversation?
According to Die Zeit , a confidential phone conversation took place between Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In it, Merz expressed his distrust of the American negotiators. Merz told Zelenskyy, “They’re playing games with both you and us.”
According to the report, French President Emmanuel Macron also participated in the phone call. “There is a possibility that the US is betraying Ukraine on the territorial issue by failing to clarify security guarantees,” Macron stated, adding that Zelenskyy is in “great danger.”Read also:
Other participants in the conference call warned against the American negotiators. “We must not leave Ukraine and Vladimir alone with these guys,” Finnish President Alexander Stubb said at the time.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reportedly agreed with him.
According to media reports, the telephone conversation was also attended by the Prime Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, Poland, Donald Tusk, Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, and EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa.
The conference call came ahead of a meeting between US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jerad Kushner, and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The publication noted that the German government has not yet responded to Dmitriev’s attack.
