The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has issued letters to private companies and the administration to preserve documents ahead of expected investigations in the Democrat-controlled next session of Congress, a Democratic Senate aide told CNN.
Letters have been issued to Elon Musk regarding the slowdown of Starshield in Ukraine. They have also issued letters to all of the ports, banks and private entities involved in the Russian diesel deal, the aide said. They said it is “a standard committee process to issue letters” for overall document preservation to people who are suspected of breaking the law “or engaging in certain activities.”
When they take the majority in January, Democrats in Congress are expected to conduct robust efforts to probe the Trump administration’s actions over the past two years.
The aide said there is “a lot of close communication” on the oversight matters as the committee transitions its leadership. Ranking member Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is retiring and Sen. Chris Coons is expected to become the chair of the committee, sources told CNN.
When it comes to the lame duck period, the aide said there are not expected to be major changes on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The “base text both in the Senate and the House is largely settled,” they said. The bill passed the House in July but has not passed the House.
The aide said that if “something drastic happens” with the war in Iran, “there might be an effort from Democrats to push forward on some new language in exchange for votes.” However, they noted there is still a Republican majority in the current Congress, so it is unlikely they will be in favor of restricting President Donald Trump on the matter.
The aide said they expect Republicans will try to confirm as many nominees, including for ambassadorships, as possible during the lame duck period. But in the new Congress, “that’s a whole different ball game,” they said, and the administration could pull back some nominations that don’t stand a chance of being confirmed.

Now we know why the Nazi invested so much money in the former GOP’s midterm efforts. He might even flee the country.
The Dems will have a huge job ahead, investigating all the crooks, traitors, and gangsters that Trump made possible. And if the remaining maga Reps in Congress still have functional brains and a lick of common decency, they will cooperate in the impeachment and prosecution of Trump.
???
If Dems were smart, they would do what they were voted in to do, not some constant partisan investigations which is what led to their 2024 defeat. As a Conservative, I will enjoy watching them waste their time…again.
Part of what they were voted in to do is hold the criminals accountable.
Don’t worry Red, they can actually walk and chew gum at the same time. 😉
If they are smart, they will investigate, prosecute and throw these gangsters into prison.
If you were smart, 😂 you would stop siding with criminals.
