Rolf Mützenich, Head of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDPG), has said that American billionaire Elon Musk had crossed the “boundaries of what is acceptable” in US-German relations with his scandalous statements.

Details: This is how the SDPG representative reacted to Musk’s insulting attacks on German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Quote: “Verbal attacks on the federal president are thus directed at all citizens,” Mützenich said.

He urged the German government to find out “whether the repeated disrespect, slander and interference in the election campaign were also expressed on behalf of the new US government”, as President-elect Donald Trump intends to appoint Musk as head of the US Government Performance and Results.

According to Mützenich, “international challenges can only be solved in free relations between us [Germans – ed.] and the United States”.

Background:

• The day before, Musk was reported to have written on Twitter: “Steinmeier is an anti-democratic tyrant”. This article came in response to Steinmeier’s criticism from influencer Naomi Seibt, who is affiliated with the far-right Alternative for Germany.
• Musk has already publicly advocated for voting for the German far-right and written a column in support of them in the Welt am Sonntag publication. Eva Marie Kogel, the newspaper’s editor, resigned in protest.
• Meanwhile, Alice Weidel, spokesman for Alternative for Germany’s leader, stated that solid plans for an online meeting between her and Elon Musk are in the works.
• On Tuesday, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck criticised Musk and his attempts to influence the German elections.
