German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, fearing further escalation, has rejected key points of the victory plan presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In particular, Scholz criticized Zelensky’s plan after the EU summit in Brussels. He believes that responsibility must be taken to ensure that the war between Russia and Ukraine does not turn into a war between Russia and NATO, writes  Bild.

He said nothing would make him change his mind about not providing Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles. “I don’t think these deliveries are right, and that’s how it will remain,” Scholz said. 

The Chancellor also intends to block a quick invitation to NATO for Ukraine. He referred to the resolutions of the last NATO summit in Washington, when the alliance did not lean in favor of the invitation (the US and Germany were against it). The resolution emphasized that the invitation to NATO could only take place after all allies had agreed to it and all conditions for admission had been met. These conditions include reforms in the areas of democracy, the economy, and security.
