This attack was the largest during a full-scale invasion of the Ukrainian power grid.

Russia attacked energy facilities across the country with combined weapons, Chairman of the Board of Ukrenegro Vladimir Kudrytsky said during a telethon.

“This was the biggest attack of all time on the energy system of Ukraine. Combined weapons were used, not only cruise missiles, but also ballistics and suicide bombs. The attack took place in different regions of Ukraine. On thermal and hydroelectric power plants, as well as on main substations. Most of all got to Kharkov, the scale of damage here is the greatest. Now we are working on a quick plan to restore power supply for the city. But restrictions during today, while power engineers eliminate the consequences of the attacks, may be in different regions,” says Kudritsky.

In addition, he confirmed information about the Russian attack on the Dnieper hydroelectric station that night.

“The attack on the DneproGES is the largest attack on this facility of all time. The enemy’s goal was to completely disable the facility, work is now ongoing to assess the damage. Later, during the day, we can say the status of this facility. I would like to note that “So far there is no information or risks of a dam break. The damage is large, but it concerns the operation of power plants specifically for generating electricity,” says Kudritsky.

When asked whether Ukraine will attract electricity from Western partners, the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo replied: “We have been working in the control room since the very morning. This possibility was considered and such assistance will be attracted to support the Ukrainian energy system, especially during the first hours of restoration. This, It is certainly an important factor for our security that we can get some help with electricity from Europe.”

Russian strike on Ukrainian energy sector: what is known

On the night of March 22, the Russian Federation launched a combined attack on the energy system of Ukraine. There are hits in Krivoy Rog, Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Kropyvnytskyi and Khmelnitsky.

In particular, Russian troops attacked the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station , the largest hydroelectric power station in Ukraine. It is known that a trolleybus with people was damaged during the attack.

Because of this, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant was on the verge of a blackout . The external overhead line connecting the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP with the unified energy system of Ukraine was switched off.

  1. “We choked the weapons supply, we failed to provide enough air defence, and now we ask Ukrianians to sit on their hands while cruise missiles land on their families. Such mistakes are setting the course of the entire century. And there is no justification for any of this.” Gabrielius Landsbergis
