Demian Shevko is a Ukrainian investigative journalist, editor and war correspondent, associated with NV / The New Voice of Ukraine, where he works mainly for the English-language audience. Born in Kyiv, he has long been interested in politics, international relations and Ukraine’s civic movements, including the Orange Revolution and Euromaidan. After Russia’s full-scale invasion, Shevko returned to Ukraine from Poland and moved into war journalism. He has said his prior research into Russia’s official discourse helped him understand the likelihood of escalation to full-scale war.
His reporting focuses on Russia’s war against Ukraine, Russian propaganda, information influence, war-crimes investigations, imperial narratives, foreign fighters, front-line realities and Ukraine’s place in Europe’s security order.
Kharkiv Media Hub is a frontline communication platform created to support Ukrainian and international journalists working in Kharkiv and the wider region during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Launched in May 2022, it was designed as a practical “one-stop shop” for media professionals covering one of Ukraine’s most strategically and symbolically important cities: a city close to the Russian border, repeatedly targeted by missile and drone attacks, but still central to Ukraine’s civic, cultural and information resistance.
