The Kremlin has minimized criticism of the United States and praised Trump for his attempts to seize Greenland.

US President Donald Trump invited Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the “Peace Council ,” created to mediate in Gaza and other geopolitical hotspots. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia is “studying all the details of the proposal” and “hopes to discuss all the nuances with Washington,” the Financial Times reports .

The publication suggests that this invitation indicates the White House chief is seeking to maintain warm relations with Putin. This is despite the fact that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is approaching its fourth anniversary, as well as Moscow’s uncompromising resistance to the US-backed peace plan.

The publication also notes that Putin is also seeking to maintain his ties with the US president, despite Washington’s detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and support for protesters against the Iranian government. The publication noted that Venezuela and Iran are Russia’s allies.

The article said the Kremlin had downplayed criticism of the US and offered renewed praise for Trump’s efforts to seize Greenland.

“There are international experts who believe that by resolving the issue of Greenland’s annexation, Trump will make history—not just US history, but world history as well. Without debating whether this is good or bad, it’s hard to disagree with these experts,” Peskov noted.

The publication reported that Washington has extended invitations to dozens of heads of state and government to join the “Peace Council,” which will be chaired by current US President Donald Trump.

The text of its charter states that countries that join the council will serve limited terms for three years unless they contribute more than $1 billion during its first year of operation.

Moreover, as the text states, Trump will receive vast powers over the body, including the right to veto decisions of the “Peace Council” and the “exclusive right” to create, modify, or dissolve subsidiary organizations.

The Peace Council’s advisory body will include former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, private equity executive Marc Rowan, and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The executive council will also focus on Gaza issues.

As the publication notes, the US has not announced how many countries will occupy seats on the “Peace Council.” On Monday, January 19, Kazakhstan announced that its President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had accepted an invitation to join leaders such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and To Lam, chairman of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam.

The White House chief also invited Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. He called Trump’s decision “a historic and magnificent attempt to strengthen peace in the Middle East.”

According to reports, numerous European countries, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Canada, and Paraguay have received invitations to join the “Peace Council” from the United States. A person familiar with the matter told the publication that Israel was also invited.
