Russian troops are making active attempts to capture Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, and, as BILD analyst Julian Röpke writes, they have managed to break through the city’s defenses.
He notes that the Russians had been unable to cross the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal in the east for several months, but on Friday the Chechen vanguard crossed it and advanced 2.5 km west along the southern edge of Chasov Yar.
“After five months of fierce fighting, the Russian army broke through the Ukrainian front south of Chasov Yar and planted its flag on an industrial building 2.5 km across the canal. Russian soldiers can be seen climbing the building and preparing a bridgehead there,” Röpke wrote.
As the analyst notes, most likely, Russian troops will not advance further west, but instead will turn north and attack the center of Chasov Yar.

As Ukrainian military personnel told WSJ, in recent days Russian troops have managed to break through near Chasov Yar , launching an offensive in two directions at once. It only takes one mistake, and Chasov Yar could fall in a matter of days, the soldiers note.
