The expert is also confident that Durov’s arrest will not affect Telegram’s work.
The arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France is a huge failure of the Russian special services and could significantly affect the activities of Russian intelligence, said Andrey Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to him, Russian intelligence uses Telegram, particularly in France, both to spread disinformation and to coordinate the execution of tasks by Russian special services.
“All subversive activities by Russian special services are accumulated through Telegram in France. Accordingly, the French special services have information about the use of this service by Russians for such activities,” Kovalenko noted.Video of the day
Therefore, Durov’s detention, according to him, will directly affect the activities of Russian special services and the Russian army as a whole.
“After Durov’s arrest, there is a risk that Telegram could provide the French intelligence services and NATO intelligence services in general with information about the work of Russian intelligence services in Telegram itself. Plus, Telegram is the main source of communication in the Russian army and this is an additional risk for Russians,” the head of the CPI explained.
Now, with the loss of Durov, Russia has lost the ability to maintain confidentiality using Telegram for destructive intelligence and other purposes. In addition, there is now a chance that Western intelligence agencies will be able to negotiate with Durov and use this messenger against the enemy, Kovalenko notes.
The expert is also confident that Durov’s arrest will not affect Telegram’s work.
“On the contrary, it is possible that after this story, Telegram may become safer from Russian special services,” he emphasized.
