Such an agreement could become part of a peace agreement.

Russia may agree to use $300 billion in sovereign assets frozen in Europe to rebuild Ukraine, Reuters reports, citing its own sources.

The publication notes that US-Russia negotiations to end the war in Ukraine are at a very early stage, but three sources immediately reported that Russia may agree to the idea of using frozen assets to restore Ukraine.

“The idea that Russia might agree to use frozen money to help rebuild Ukraine has not been raised before, and could provide insight into what kind of compromise Russia is willing to make as Moscow and Washington seek to end the war,” the publication says.

One source familiar with the discussions in Moscow said Russia could agree to donate up to two-thirds of the frozen reserves to help rebuild Ukraine. The rest could be used to rebuild parts of Ukraine that Russia itself controls, one of the sources said.

Another source familiar with the talks said Moscow would agree to use the money to rebuild Ukraine, but it was too early to talk about a possible split. Two sources stressed the importance of discussing which companies would receive future contracts to carry out reconstruction work.

Another source close to the Kremlin but not directly involved in the discussions said Russia would still seek to lift the asset freeze as part of a gradual easing of sanctions.

  1. Wondered if hell froze over, but that insulting offer would just be a drop in the bucket compared to what should be required from the evil terrorist regime. Instead it should be fully confiscated and used to fund Ukraine’s domestic industrial military complex. Then after restoration of Ukraine’s borders ensuring territorial integrity with solid security guaranties, discussing just reparations would then be possible.

  2. Just give the money to Ukraine as part payment for reparations, also sanctions have to remain in place untill all the children are returned.
