In their war against Ukraine, Russia has suffered massive casualties. The one thing keeping Russia going has been their ability to continue to fill their ranks. And that has just changed. Many Russian regions are now struggling to meet their recruitment quotas, and on top of that, they are also being forced to lower the signing bonuses they can offer. Simply put, Russia is running out of money. Printing rubles won’t cut it any more, and without the ability to fill their ranks with recruits in exchange for stacks of cash, Putin’s ability to wage war is now on a steady track downhill.
