The approximate cost of such a tanker is $30 million.

On December 10, SBU Sea Baby naval drones struck the Dashan tanker belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet” in the Black Sea. SBU sources told UNIAN this.

According to sources, the Comoros-flagged vessel was traveling in Ukraine’s exclusive economic zone toward the Novorossiysk port terminal. It was traveling at full speed with its transponder turned off. The attack resulted in critical damage to the tanker.

Video footage shows powerful explosions near the stern. According to preliminary information, the vessel has been disabled.

This was a joint operation between the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian Navy.

According to our sources, the approximate cost of such a tanker is $30 million, and during one voyage it transported approximately $60 million worth of petroleum products.

Due to the transportation of Russian raw materials and high-risk shipping (with the identification system disabled), the Dashan vessel was previously subject to sanctions by the EU, UK, Canada, Australia, and Switzerland.

“The SBU continues to actively reduce petrodollar revenues to the Russian budget. In the past two weeks, this is the third tanker from the ‘shadow fleet’ that helped the Kremlin circumvent international sanctions to be disabled,” a well-informed SBU source reported.

Strikes on Russian tankers: what is known

As a reminder, on November 29, it was reported that Sea Baby drones had hit two sanctioned oil tankers, the Kairo and the Virat, in the Black Sea. Video footage showed that both tankers were critically damaged after the hits and effectively taken out of service.

Commenting on the strikes on Russian tankers, the Financial Times noted that they were part of Ukraine’s campaign to reduce the Kremlin’s energy revenues. These actions also demonstrate to its Western partners Ukraine’s ability to deliver powerful strikes despite the difficult situation on the front lines.
