As a result of an air strike by the Russian military, the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra in the city of Svyatogorsk, Donetsk region, was damaged.

This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC-MP .

The blast wave damaged the premises of the Lavra, where the brethren of the monastery and refugees lived. Almost all windows were broken, church buildings were destroyed to varying degrees.

As specified in the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security  under the Ministry of Culture, on March 12 at 22:00 Russia launched an airstrike on Lavra. An aerial bomb exploded 50 meters from the bridge connecting the right and left banks of the Seversky Donets River – at the entrance to the monastery.

“As a result of the terrible force of the explosion, window frames flew out in the temples of the Lavra. In the Lavra hotels, all windows and doors were knocked out by the blast wave. Several wounded were taken to the hospital in the city of Svyatogorsk, the rest were treated at the monastery. Fortunately, there were no deaths,” the report says. .

There are 520 refugees in the Svyatogorsk Lavra, 200 of them are children. In total, the city now has about 10,000 refugees and local residents.

According to the leadership of the Lavra, there were no military formations either on the territory of the monastery or in the city.

Earlier, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko told which cultural monuments in Ukraine have already been destroyed by Russian invaders .
