Russia has proposed blowing up its own tankers off the European coast.

This is how the Russians want to combat the detention of tankers that violate maritime regulations.

To protect Russian tankers from shadow fleet arrest by Western countries , they should be sent on voyages armed with mines. This proposal was put forward by former head of Roscosmos and Russian parliamentary senator Dmitry Rogozin.

Commenting on the UK’s arrest of a Russian tanker, the politician proposed mining such vessels and detonating them in European territorial waters.

“I believe we should mine the tankers we use. The [explosion] should be initiated upon receiving the appropriate commands or when the tanker deviates from its route and is forced to enter a foreign port. A couple of explosions under their noses, with an oil spill and the corresponding environmental consequences, will immediately make them come to their senses,” Rogozin wrote in his Telegram channel .

However, his post in no way implies that the Russians evacuated the crew from their tanker before blowing it up.
