Russia has set up a scheme to supply American Starlink terminals for use in the war against Ukraine. Moscow has done this by manipulating product declarations and certification records.

As reported by the  Nordsint resource , the journalists’ investigation showed that some of the terminals entered the aggressor’s territory not directly from the manufacturer, but through a network of licensed suppliers and intermediaries from a number of countries.

One of these intermediaries was tracked down by a mistake in the documents. They listed the Starlink terminals as “other electronic components” or as goods for civilian use. Such a substitution of concepts complicates export control.

It is noteworthy that SpaceX officially denies providing its products to the Russian Federation. However, the Russians use parallel imports and activate accounts through other countries. The documents included the address of Castor Marine, which is in the Netherlands, and previously the address of a Tesla dealership in Amsterdam.

The documents also list the UAE-based company Emaross Group, which is a Sharjah-based freight forwarding company that, according to its website, specializes in “the supply and delivery of new and used cars.”

Starlink on Russian weapons

American satellite communication terminals have been spotted on Russian equipment and weapons on the front lines more than once. In particular, they are also installed on drones.

The GUR reported that the occupiers installed Starlink on the “Lightning” . The enemy adapted the drone for aerial reconnaissance.

Radio communication systems specialist Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov informed that the Russians are already using Starlink on armored vehicles .

  1. Starlink terminals know their location; Starlink should be able to shut down a terminal registered in Amsterdam but powering up in ruSSia or Ukraine.
