Authorities warn of possible threats overnight

On the evening of Thursday, January 8, a series of powerful explosions were heard in Lviv during an air raid alert issued due to the threat of ballistic missiles. They were heard at around 11:46 p.m.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed the explosions. According to him, it is being determined what exactly happened and in which district.
Later, the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytsky, reported that a critical infrastructure facility had been attacked in the Lviv region. More information was promised to be provided later.
At the same time, Kozytskyi stated that new threats are possible during the night:
“There may be new threats tonight. If an air raid alert is issued, take shelter immediately.”
There are reports online that the city may have been attacked by a Russian Oreshnik missile. However, there is no official information on this matter.
Updated . Andriy Sadovyi stated that there were no casualties as a result of the strike.
“Whether it was “Oreshnik” is currently unknown. The military will provide information. There is a flight to the critical infrastructure facility. All relevant services are working on the scene, the fire is being extinguished. There is currently no information about the victims. Civilian facilities and residential buildings in the city were not damaged,” the mayor’s statement said.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also commented on the explosions in the Lviv region:
“On January 8, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., a missile alert was declared throughout Ukraine due to the threat of the enemy using ballistic missiles from the Kapustin Yar test site. Explosions were recorded in the Lviv region. The information is being verified.”
Russian attacks on Ukraine
On January 8, Russian invaders attacked Kryvyi Rih . Residential buildings were damaged there. One person is known to have died – a 77-year-old woman.
In addition, at least 23 people were injured. Among them are six children. One person is in extremely serious condition, local authorities said.
Kherson was also under attack by the occupiers . The Russians hit a cafe in the city center. Three people are known to have died. There are wounded.
