The offensive of the Russian occupiers in the Sumy direction failed. The enemy suffered significant losses, primarily in personnel.

This, as reported by an OBOZ.UA correspondent, was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a meeting with President of the European Parliament Roberta Matsola in Kyiv on September 17. The Head of State spoke about the current situation on the front.

Russia was preparing an offensive on four fronts

According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian side had information about the preparation of an offensive by the Russian invaders in four directions.

“Four main directions were chosen by Russia according to all documents, according to all intelligence data. We did not know only the sequence, but, in principle, it happened – the Sumy offensive, the Novopavlivka operation, the Pokrovka operation as one of the main ones, as well as the Zaporizhia direction. These are four directions for which we saw the relevant data,” Zelensky said.

Defense forces completely thwarted the enemy’s attack on Sumy

The offensive operation of the Russian occupation forces in the Sumy direction failed thanks to the Defense Forces. Having suffered huge losses, the Russians abandoned the offensive on Sumy, the president emphasized.

“The Sumy operation failed. The Russians suffered heavy losses, primarily personnel. They have abandoned this direction for now and have transferred their personnel and resources to another direction. I believe that they suffered even greater losses there, which we will report on in the next two days, because I would like us to talk about it in more detail,” the president said.

According to him, the Russian occupiers were left with two operations. But thanks to the successful steps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy lost a lot of personnel and does not have enough strength to deliver strong strikes in these two directions, Zelenskyy emphasized.

“I think that today they will not have enough strength for mass operations,” he added.

As OBOZ.UA reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about Ukraine’s secret special operation on the territory of the Russian Federation. It was a response to Russian attacks on railway infrastructure, energy, and civilian facilities.

  1. “I think that today they will not have enough strength for mass operations,” he added.

This is without any aid from the US, which makes it all the more remarkable.
