Ukraine launched one of the largest overnight strike packages we have seen in some time, with roughly 480 drones reported heading into Russia and occupied Ukraine. But the biggest story may be the Flamingo cruise-missile strike on the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara, Russia’s sole facility for serial assembly of Soyuz-2 launch vehicles and a facility connected to Moscow’s attempt to develop its own satellite capability after Russian forces lost unauthorized access to Starlink. Ukraine also targeted Savasleyka Air Base, home to MiG-31K aircraft capable of launching Kinzhal missiles. In this update, I break down what was hit, why these targets matter, what we know about the damage, the extraordinary Russian effort to intercept the Flamingos, and what the attacks tell us about Ukraine’s expanding deep-strike strategy.
