Russia attacks Ukraine on New Year’s Eve: air defense works in the Kiev region and in the capital

On the night of January 1, 2023, an air alert was announced throughout Ukraine. The head of the Kyiv regional military administration Oleksiy Kuleba noted that air defense is working in the Kiev region.

On his  Telegram page,  Kuleba also urged citizens to stay in safe places. 

“Kyiv region. Air defense works,” he said.

It is noted that earlier residents of the capital and the region heard the sounds of explosions, after which an air raid signal sounded.

At the same time, the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko  , stressed that the explosions in the capital are the consequences of the Ukrainian air defense.

“Explosions are heard in the capital. Air defense is working,” he said.

Subsequently, the head of the Kyiv region police, Andriy Nebytov  , announced  the threat of missile strikes and drone attacks.

“There is a serious threat of missile danger and a strike by martyrs,” he said.

Updated at 01:36. The head of the Makarov community of the Kyiv region, Vadim Tokar, reported on the work of the air defense.

“Makarovshchina, air defense works! Take care of yourself,” he wrote.

On the afternoon of December 31, Russia launched a massive shelling of Ukraine. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny  reported that the  enemy fired more than 20 missiles. Of these, 12 were shot down by the Defense Forces.
