Rubio criticized European countries for continuing to buy Russian oil and gas.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed his opinion on why the administration of US President Donald Trump has not yet imposed tougher sanctions against Russia. He told NBC News that doing so would hinder Washington’s role as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.

“Once we start applying tough sanctions and other measures, our ability to act as a mediator to achieve peace will be weakened,” Rubio said.

The US Secretary of State also does not rule out that Washington will still have to impose tougher sanctions against Russia in the future. His statement came against the backdrop of recent Russian provocations in Europe.

Rubio also criticized European countries for continuing to buy Russian oil and gas, calling it an “absurd decision.” He called on allies to do more to pressure Russia.Read also:

“Some countries are asking the US to impose additional sanctions, but there are countries in Europe that are not doing enough, so I think they need to do more,” the US Secretary of State emphasized.

US and Europe cannot agree on sanctions against Russia

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed diplomats, wrote that European countries and the United States could not agree on imposing tougher sanctions against Russia. In particular, European leaders postponed a proposed package of sanctions against Moscow to figure out how to strengthen it.

The administration of US President Donald Trump continues to urge European allies to abandon Russian oil and gas. However, even major European Union countries, including France, Germany and Italy, are buying Russian energy resources.

  1. I agree 100% that no European country whatsoever should buy any putinaZi energy.
Those who do so are guilty of child murder by proxy.
Only Orbanistan and Ficostan should be left buying off the putinaZis.
At that point there is no excuse whatsoever for keeping them as EU or Nato members.
    Zero.
If they remain as members, then the other members at that point are also guilty of child murder by proxy.

  2. “Once we start applying tough sanctions and other measures, our ability to act as a mediator to achieve peace will be weakened,” Rubio said.

This administration has already been in a majorly weakened position and has no business trying to be a “mediator”. The fluffy coddling of pootin has achieved nothing except further embolden him and his horde in trying to destroy Ukraine.

  3. With real sanctions by America the war would be over by now. But the Trump Corporation is fully supportive to Russia.

  4. I don’t believe in my lifetime I’ve heard such bullshit. Rubio should be ashamed of himself to even recite such crap that he got from the WH. If this too be true, why did TACO begin saying how tough he is in the first place. Admit it Rubio, Trump, and yourself, have your nose so far up Putin’s ass that you couldn’t decipher crap from fresh air

  5. IN HIS UN SPEECH TRUMP HARDLY MENTIONED RUSSIA………..ONLY BRAGGING ABOUT NO INFLATION IN AMERICA ANYMORE AND THE BOOMING ECONOMY, AND HE WANTS TO PUT A MARBLE FLOOR IN THE UN BUILDING…………….

  6. Since when, does a mediator attack one side publicly in the WH, but grovel humiliatingly to the other side?
