While Republican lawmakers praised Trump’s decision to “pause,” Democrats and economists expressed a different opinion.
Republicans have praised US President Donald Trump’s decision to put a 90-day “pause” on the imposition of extreme import tariffs , hailing it as a “victory,” The Guardian reports .

According to the publication, Republican lawmakers praised Trump’s decision. House Speaker Mike Johnson called the “pause” in tariffs “the art of the deal.”
“President Trump has created leverage, brought many countries to the negotiating table, and will work for the benefit of American workers, manufacturers, and America’s future,” he wrote on social media.
For his part, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley called the American leader “a great dealmaker,” noting that the decision to pause “brings more certainty.”
Journalists noted that some Republicans had expressed concerns about the risks of Trump’s tariff policies before he announced the “pause.” Senator Ted Cruz, who initially expressed concerns that a recession could begin, praised the American leader:
“Today’s announcement is amazing news,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul expressed moderate optimism about Trump’s decision.
“10 percent tariffs are bad, but they are better than 60 percent,” he noted.
Billionaire Bill Ackman, speaking of Trump’s approach, said that “the US now understands who the best trading partners are and who the problematic ones are.” He called China a “bad player.”
Former PayPal CEO David Sachs called Trump’s decision a “victory”:
“China is isolated, and the rest of the world is lining up to make new trade deals. Do you think that would have happened if Trump had asked nicely? No, never. That was the only way to rewrite the rules of world trade. And again, Trump was right about everything.”
The publication noted that not everyone shared the Republicans’ enthusiasm. KPMG’s chief economist, Diana Swank, reported that the effective interest rate during the “pause” reaches 30.5%, which is much worse than predicted.
Virgin founder Richard Branson has called Trump’s tariffs a “colossal mistake” and urged the US leader to “change course.”
Democratic lawmakers such as Chuck Schumer have echoed Trump’s displeasure with tariffs, noting that “all this chaos is a game for him.”
“These constant policy swings create dangerous opportunities for insider trading. Who in the administration knew in advance about Trump’s latest tariff coup? Did anyone buy or sell stocks, making a profit at the expense of the state? I am writing to the White House – the public has a right to know,” Senator Adam Schiff was outraged.

“Republicans saw Trump’s tariff decision as a victory”
I suppose only those who are a little shy of carrying a full load, or those who benefited from Trump’s market manipulation.
