Dmitriev will meet with Witkoff to discuss Ukraine and cooperation issues.

This week, the Kremlin’s key negotiator Kirill Dmitriev is expected to arrive in Washington for talks with representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump .

As Reuters writes, citing the aforementioned sources, Dmitriev, the head of the Russian sovereign wealth fund, appointed by Russian dictator Putin as a special investment and international economic envoy, will meet with US special representative Steve Witkoff.

Another source clarified that Dmitriev will meet with Witkoff on Wednesday.

According to CNN, Dmitriev and Vitkoff will hold talks on strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as on ending the war against Ukraine. Since Dmitriev is under US sanctions, CNN reported that the Trump administration has lifted sanctions on this Russian official for the duration of his visit. “His visit will be the first visit to the United States by a high-ranking Russian official since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and will mark further steps in the warming of relations between the countries after Trump’s return to power,” CNN writes.

It is noted that Dmitriev’s visit will take place before the meeting between Trump and Putin.

“Trump is growing increasingly impatient with Moscow’s delay in reaching a broader peace deal on Ukraine… Dmitriev’s visit could also ease tensions,” the publication suggested.

Recall that Dmitriev is close to Putin and participated in a meeting in Riyadh, where Russian and American officials discussed ending the war in Ukraine.

On March 31, Dmitriev, considered the most US-savvy member of the Russian elite, said that the two countries had already begun discussing a joint mineral project, among other deals.

On February 27, it became known that the Russian Federation and the United States had identified the Arctic as a possible area for economic cooperation. Representatives of these countries discussed the exploration of natural resources and trade routes.
