After President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR” , an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council was held on the Ukrainian issue, during which a number of countries sharply opposed the actions of the Russian side.

The Permanent Representative of the States also spoke about the deployment of “peacekeepers” of the Russian Federation in the Donbas.

Thomas-Greenfield confirmed that the United States will impose new sanctions on Russia on February 22.

“Russia has approached a dangerous brink, we urge you to move away from it,” said Barbara Woodward.

The Ukrainian side also called on Russia to cancel the decision to recognize the pseudo-republics and continue the negotiation process.

Nebenzya also repeated the “mantra” of Russian propaganda about the shelling of part of the Donbass.

Recall that Vladimir Putin on February 21 during a televised address said that Russia had decided to recognize the “LDNR” as independent. Kiev  demanded to urgently convene a meeting of the UN Security Council .

After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine considers the latest actions of the Russian Federation as a violation of its sovereignty . According to him, the world will continue to recognize the Ukrainian state within its former borders.
