I also assess the stakes around Donetsk, Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Kostyantynivka; Ukraine’s recruiting and training bottleneck; and why Kremlin rhetoric extends beyond Ukraine. Putin’s confidence may rest less on military success than on his belief that NATO and Western democracies will not impose meaningful deterrence.
