Ukraine must become a “steel porcupine” so that the “Russian bear” cannot swallow it, say Europeans.
EU countries do not intend to comply with the Kremlin’s demand to suspend arms supplies to Ukraine during the 30-day ceasefire, DW reports , citing unnamed European diplomats.
“The European Union is seeking to ensure that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position in peace talks, and can also abandon a ‘bad’ deal, as Trump would say, and choose the most suitable moment for negotiations. I do not think that the European Union and its members will stop supplying weapons to Kyiv if the aggressor demands this as a condition for a ceasefire,” the European diplomat said at a briefing in Brussels.
Another diplomat confirmed this position to journalists. According to him, during a potential truce, Ukraine should be armed, and in no case the other way around.
“The fighting is still going on, but even if there is a pause, Ukraine needs to be turned into a ‘steel porcupine,'” the third diplomat added. He stressed that the Russians should not be given a ‘chance’ to regroup and attack again.
