The statements regarding the use of Ukrainian rare earth minerals as compensation for U.S. support are, to say the least, perplexing.
There exists a better, simpler, and fairer method to acquire such funds – utilizing russian frozen assets. In fact, the amounts are comparable; around $300 to $500 billion in russian assets are currently frozen globally.
Undoubtedly, the lion’s share of these funds is frozen in Europe, particularly in the Belgian depository Euroclear. However, in light of the recent remarks made by the head of the Pentagon, indicating that European partners must assume greater responsibility for supporting Ukraine, the use of frozen assets presents a ready solution for Europe. These funds could be allocated for purchasing weapons, compensating Washington for certain expenses, and exploring numerous other options. What is required is merely the political will.
Unless, of course, there exists a plan to return these assets to the aggressor, russia. Nonetheless, how does this align with the concept of “peace through strength”?
For the war, putin must bear the cost. I will not tire of emphasizing this, as the utilization of frozen russian assets is the most logical step not only for supporting Ukraine but also for ensuring a sustainable and just peace.
I stated this on CNN, particularly in light of the statements and potential agreements regarding the use of Ukraine’s natural resources.

In recent months, the topic of negotiations with russia regarding the ending of the war has dominated media headlines. However, to date, no one can adequately answer the question: who or what will serve as the security guarantor?
Since 2014, we have witnessed two series of Minsk agreements and countless declarations of ceasefire regimes. Each time, moscow has brazenly demonstrated its unwillingness to pursue peace or adhere to its commitments. I emphasized this in an interview for CNN.
The world must realize that simply reaching a peace agreement with the kremlin will not suffice unless the aggressor is made to comprehend the consequences of violating the agreement.

We could start with a certain $300 billion, frozen in Europe.
