“Putin is killing Ukrainians indiscriminately”: Johnson harshly “walked through” Trump’s peace plan

Johnson said there was nothing in Trump’s proposal that could realistically stop another Russian invasion.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sharply criticized US President Donald Trump’s ” peace plan ,” in a Facebook post following Russia’s massive overnight attack on Ukraine.

“Putin is indiscriminately targeting civilians in Ukraine, killing and wounding 100 people in Kyiv, including children,” Johnson wrote.

According to him, according to Trump’s proposal, Putin receives rewards for such crimes – the preservation of the captured territories by Russia, control over the fate of Ukraine in the form of a ban on its membership in NATO, the lifting of sanctions, an economic partnership with America, and the opportunity to rebuild his armed forces for the next attack on Ukraine in a few years.

“As for Ukraine, what is their reward for the terrible sacrifices they have made for, as they have been told endlessly, freedom and democracy around the world? Apart from the right to share their natural resources with the United States, they get nothing. What in this deal could actually stop a third Russian invasion? Nothing,” Johnson fumed.

According to the former British prime minister, properly funded security guarantees for Ukraine must be provided to prevent further atrocities by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. And such guarantees, Johnson noted, must be provided by the United Kingdom, the United States and all Western allies.

Trump’s “peace plan”

As UNIAN wrote, earlier reports appeared in the media that the “peace plan” proposed by Trump provides for the recognition of Crimea and almost all captured Ukrainian territories as Russian, as well as the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Europe is categorically against some points of Trump’s “peace plan.” According to Reuters, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that European states have detailed their views to the United States on aspects of a potential peace deal that are not subject to negotiation.

At the same time, The Economist writes that the US is selling a “peace plan” for Ukraine , but no one is buying it. Journalists noted that no one has approved Trump’s proposals. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv does not recognize Russia’s seizure of Crimea, and Russia has not yet accepted the US president’s plan.
