Putin Expands List of Information Covered by Russia’s State Secrets Law – Bloomberg

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has expanded the list of information that is considered a state secret.

This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to a resolution published on the Kremlin website, Censor.NET reports.

It is noted that in this way Putin is strengthening his control over society as the war against Ukraine continues.

Witer said details of Russia’s foreign policy, international trade and economic policy, scientific developments and preparations for possible military mobilization could be classified as secret if their disclosure would harm national security, Bloomberg writes.

Anyone who obtains such materials in an unauthorized manner could face up to eight years in prison.

“This is the destruction of expertise about the Russian economy, based on facts and statistics, which will lead to increased repression,” says Andrey Soldatov, an expert on Russian security services.

In his opinion, the secrecy of information about mobilization was probably “a reaction to the Ukrainian drone attacks, since it is a secrecy of data about bunkers and underground plans for the government’s relocation,” and not about preparations for a new recruitment of troops for war.

Bloomberg recalls that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has stopped publishing many statistics, including key budget data and official oil production figures. Information on Russian military losses has also been classified. Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n3560612
