Alexander Darchiev has become the Russian Ambassador to the United States of America . A corresponding decree of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has appeared. This is reported by Russian media with reference to the portal of legal acts.
“To appoint Alexander Nikitich Darchiev as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington, United States of America, concurrently,” the text of the decree states.
It is known that Darchiev was previously the Director of the North Atlantic Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. He headed the Russian delegation at the negotiations with the United States in Istanbul on February 28, 2025. It was then that the United States handed over to the Russian side an official memorandum with an agrément on Darchiev’s appointment.
Even earlier, the newly appointed ambassador served as the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Canada.
