President of UN General Assembly: I have not seen single document on Russia’s legitimate membership in Security Council

The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, said that he had not seen a single document confirming that Russia legitimately holds the seat of a permanent member of the UN Security Council with a veto.

He said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“…You said ‘legitimate membership in the Security Council’. I was not at the UN when this happened. This should have happened around the time of the collapse of the USSR in 1990-1991. But no, I have not seen any document yet. And I don’t know if such a document exists,” said the head of the General Assembly.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukraine has repeatedly raised the issue of the legality of Russia’s membership in the UN, as no documents of the Organization provide for its membership. Among the founders of the UN are the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and the Soviet Union, which are also permanent members of the Security Council.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is convinced that Russia has never legally acquired the status of a permanent member of the UN Security Council and should be expelled from this respected body.

Permanent Representative of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya stated that the Russian Federation does not dare to legitimize its presence among the permanent members of the UN Security Council, as it pursues an aggressive policy towards other states and cannot count on the support of two-thirds of the members, as provided for in the Charter.

To change the composition of the Security Council, a corresponding decision of the General Assembly is required.

    • The UN general assembly needs to hold a vote on whether or not a state can remain on the security council when it doesn’t abide by the charter. Pure and simple. Like a no confidence vote. IMO I would give Japan, “Russia’s” seat.

        • And also appropriate because Kyiv is the home of all Rus, so it would be a better representative of the region. Great point, regardless of being able to afford the dues 😉

      • That’s a separate topic. I don’t disagree with you about that, but the point of the article is that the Soviet Union was a member; it’s not at all clear that russia has a right to inherit that membership post-USSR-breakup.

    • Actually, it’s nothing new. They should not have held membership in the UN, much less the security council. Ukraine is just a legit as a successor state of the USSR as Russia is. Frankly, given Russia’s acts in several countries, it should be removed from the UNSC and kicked out of the UN as well.

  1. The General Assembly is composed of whimps. The UN will back off the second Putler waves his finger and says nuclear.

  2. A couple of days ago, I commented in news about N. Korea sending ammo, “How about hitting it while it’s in transit?”

Looks like someone was listening to me… 🙂

North Korean ammo shipment sabotaged in Russian railway attack

Partisans have blown up a railway line that was being used to deliver ammunition supplies from North Korea. Agents of “Atesh” reported that the blast site had been tightly cordoned off by the FSB and announced further attacks on the Russian railway.

Agents of “Atesh” continue to conduct operations within Russian territory aimed at weakening the military potential of Vladimir Putin’s army. Recently, they carried out another successful sabotage on the Trans-Siberian Railway near Yekaterinburg.

This railway was used to transport ammunition from North Korea, which Russia utilized during the war with Ukraine. Details were disclosed on their Telegram channel.

Agents of Atesh managed to carry out a successful operation on the Trans-Siberian Railway near Yekaterinburg, resulting in the destruction of the railway track along which North Korean ammunition was transported, the network emphasizes.
Journalists were not allowed on the scene. Information leaked only on local websites.

Interestingly, only after receiving an order from the regional division did the FSB agree to allow a repair crew to arrive and start renovation work. We remind you that the railway will explode even more often when ammunition is being transported there, the agents explain.

Let’s recall that “Atesh” is an active Tatar-Ukrainian partisan unit, among other places, in occupied Crimea. One of Atesh’s tasks is to recruit Russians to gauge the sentiments prevailing in the occupying units.

Collaboration between Russia and Korea. Data revealed
The media continues to buzz about the cooperation between Russia and North Korea. According to the independent portal Meduza, the agreement includes declarations of readiness for mutual combat and actual deliveries of hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of missiles for attacks on Ukraine.

According to the latest information from “The Washington Post,” North Korea may have already delivered 1.6 million artillery shells to Russia from August 2023 to January 2024.

Let’s recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the DPRK on June 18-19, signing an agreement on a “comprehensive partnership” during the visit. This document serves as the formal basis for ammunition supplies from the DPRK to Russia.

  3. This topic was raised before, but the jellyfish let it sink into obscurity again. Mafia land has no right to be a member of the UNSC.
