Ukrainian intelligence just struck a Rubicon drone base near Avdiivka—the elite Russian unit that’s strangling Pokrovsk. But it won’t change what’s happening on the ground.
Rubicon gained infamy in February when it deployed FPV teams north of Sudzha in Kursk Oblast. The drones destroyed hundreds of Ukrainian trucks in days, cutting supply lines and forcing a retreat. Defense Minister Belousov personally created the unit in mid-2024, combining drone development, operator training, and electronic warfare into integrated detachments.
Now they’re repeating the strategy around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Russian forces have pushed close enough for FPV operators to fly tiny drones—some radio-controlled, others guided by jam-proof fiber-optic cables—directly over the two main supply routes.
Ukrainian vehicles can’t move in daylight. Thermal cameras make nighttime only slightly safer.
The HUR raid hit a rear facility. The real threat operates from front-line positions—scores of FPV teams that Ukrainian forces realistically can’t hit simultaneously. Only 3km remains between converging Russian segments. Russian forces outnumber defenders 5 to 1. Potentially thousands of Ukrainian troops are nearly cut off.

Ukrainian assault troops cover the retreat from Pokrovsk
Pokrovsk is about to fall. A recent attack by the 425th Assault Regiment wasn’t an effort to save the city. No, it supported a wider retreat.

A friend of mine who is in contact with one of the commanders, messaged me late Tuesday :
“These are very difficult times. The defenders of Pokrovsk and Mirnograd are in terrible danger of being completely surrounded. The most combat-ready units are there. I am helping two of them — one marine unit and one assault unit. I am very worried about these soldiers. Thank God, we are in contact with them, but they say the situation is very difficult. The Russians are everywhere. It is very, very difficult to get in and out of positions in Pokrovsk and nearby. And most importantly, logistics are practically impossible, with drones everywhere. All my thoughts have been there for the last week, I am very worried. I hope our military leadership will be able to save people, otherwise there will be a great tragedy, because you see what kind of savages we are fighting against…”
