Patriot missile production in Ukraine could start in a few weeks: Poland unexpectedly offered to help

07/09/2026

Production of missiles for Patriot air defense systems in Ukraine could begin in a few weeks. Poland has announced its readiness to join the project and cooperate with Ukraine in the field of missile production and maintenance.

This was stated by Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference on Thursday, July 9. He was quoted by PAP.

PAC-3 missile maintenance center to be created in Europe

The day before, US President Donald Trump, during a meeting in Ankara with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, announced the granting of a license to Ukraine to produce missiles for Patriot systems.

Poland also signed an agreement with the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden to establish a special center in Europe for servicing PAC-3 missiles, which are used by Patriot systems.

“Our country is one of four NATO countries – in addition to Poland, these include Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands – which were granted in Ankara the status of a country to which technologies related to the production and maintenance of Patriot missiles can be transferred. Poland is one of the countries designated by the United States for this production and maintenance, so we will also cooperate with Ukraine on this issue,” Kosiniak-Kamysh said.

The creation of a European service center should reduce the time for missile repair and maintenance, as well as reduce the allies’ dependence on production and service facilities in the United States.

Poland will help Ukraine launch production of Patriot missiles

When asked when missile production for Ukraine could begin, Kosiniak-Kamysh said it would take several weeks.

At the same time, he acknowledged that organizing such production is a complex technological task.

“It is not easy if today missiles for Patriot systems are produced on a large scale only in the United States, and the current volumes are not enough even to meet the needs of the United States itself. Therefore, we need to act very quickly,” the Polish minister noted.

According to him, Warsaw is determined and ready to immediately join in servicing the missiles and further measures necessary for the development of new production facilities.

“We are determined. Poland is ready to immediately serve and conduct further operations,” said the Polish Minister of Defense.

As OBOZ.UA reported:

On July 8, at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with his American counterpart, Donald Trump. The American leader promised that the United States would provide Ukraine with licenses to produce Patriot missiles.

Experts note that establishing production of Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine will not be easy. Establishing such production will take years due to the complexity of the technology, strict US export controls, and supply chain problems.

  1. If Ukraine has produced the first Patriots by the year’s end, we know they have already reverse-engineered them quite some time ago. I hope so.
