What preceded
As is known, on March 9, it became known that due to the deterioration of Filaret’s health, he was hospitalized in one of the medical institutions in Kyiv. He was under the supervision of doctors and received the necessary medical care.
As UNIAN reported, after Ukraine gained independence, Patriarch Filaret fought for the restoration of Ukrainian church independence and for granting autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. Before receiving the Tomos, he headed the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate. In 2018, after the unification council and the creation of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Filaret became its honorary patriarch.
