Ukraine is already helping five Middle Eastern countries shoot down Iranian “Shaheeds”.

Ukraine has received a request from the United States to provide expert support for the American military in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this  on Telegram. He detailed that detailed discussions are underway with partners at all necessary levels. 

“Our teams are already working with five states to counter the “Shaheeds” – expert assessments have been provided, we are helping to build a defense system. There are additional requests from other states. There are also requests from the American side for expert support for their military in two areas in the region,” Zelenskyy emphasized. 

At the same time, requests from European partners whose forces are based in this region are also being processed. 

Ukraine advocates for the earliest possible stabilization of the situation in the Persian Gulf 

“Ukraine is interested in the fastest and most reliable stabilization around Iran – this is of global importance from the point of view of the state of the oil and gas markets, and therefore the price situation, in particular in Europe and Ukraine,” Zelenskyy noted. 

As the president added, Ukraine’s principled position is the inadmissibility of any success in terrorist activity by the Iranian regime, which is a long-time ally of Russia. Read also:

“Nowhere in the world can terrorists be allowed to determine what will happen to people and countries,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

Ukraine will study the readiness of countries to unblock the Strait of Hormuz 

The President reported that they separately discussed the possibilities of international cooperation to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz. 

“I instructed Rustem Umerov to involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our military to assess existing international initiatives regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the real readiness of countries around the world to participate in stabilization missions,” Zelenskyy said. 

According to him, he expects specific results of the assessment in the near future. 

“It is important that Ukraine’s global importance in ensuring security and the quality of Ukrainian security expertise to protect life are recognized by all partners,” Zelenskyy noted.

In turn, as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov reported after a visit to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan, Ukrainian teams in the Middle East conducted an expert assessment of the protection of critical infrastructure facilities and developed specific solutions. 

“Expert recommendations are also provided on increasing the effectiveness of individual air defense assets. Interception units have been deployed to protect civilian and critical infrastructure. We are also working on expanding cover zones. We have separately identified further steps for developing long-term security cooperation with each of these countries,” Umerov noted. 

Ukraine and the war in Iran

As UNIAN reported, Zelenskyy previously reported that Ukrainian specialists in shooting down and countering Iranian Shahed attack drones are already working in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Ukrainians have also been sent to Kuwait. It is said that more than 200 Ukrainians will be involved.

Zelensky emphasizes that sending Ukrainians to Arab countries is not a sign that Ukraine is at war with Iran.
