In particular, the mark on the Tu-22M3 bomber is located in the place of the central fuel tank, the publication emphasized. It is located above the center section, which is a key element of the aircraft’s structural strength.

The publication added that a fire in the aircraft’s center section could lead to irreversible loss of structural strength or complete destruction. Journalists noted that aluminum alloys used in aviation have a melting point of about 650 degrees Celsius.

To effectively destroy the Tu-95MS, Ukrainian drones had to hit the wing between the fuselage and the inner engine. The publication explained that this is where one of the strategic bomber’s fuel tanks is located, as well as the four-spar wing root structure.

In addition, the impact on the fuel tanks of these aircraft leads to a large-scale fire, the publication noted. After this, the aircraft can no longer be repaired.

The publication also spoke about the weak points of the Tu-160, which could be hit by Ukrainian drones. This is a small fuel tank above the center section of the plane or the main fuel tank in the tail section.

Moreover, the effectiveness of such strikes depended on whether the planes were refueled. The publication emphasized that Operation Spider Web attacked bombers that were involved in attacks on Ukraine, so there was a high probability that they were prepared for takeoff in advance.
