He accused them of “shameful naivety.”

Former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell criticized the new White House administration’s position on the war in Ukraine.

According to  the New York Post , he gave a speech while receiving an award from the US-Ukraine Foundation. According to McConnell, US President Donald Trump seeks an “illusory peace” with Kremlin ruler Putin, and his advisers are not ready to mobilize resources to deter the country’s opponents.

The politician believes that the White House’s approach to the war in Ukraine not only undermines trust in the United States, but also leaves Ukraine at risk, weakens alliances and emboldens enemies. Few deserve peace more than the Ukrainians, who feel its absence most acutely, he added:

“When they stand on the ruins of their homes, their schools and their churches. And when they say goodbye to their children or their parents who are going to the front. Some of them will never return. If there is anyone I will take at their word when they say they want peace, it is the people from whom that peace was stolen. The people whose unique identity has forced the Kremlin’s totalitarians – again and again – to starve, subjugate and try to destroy them.”

According to him, begging for the enemy’s favor at the expense of allies and mocking friends is a manifestation of shameful naivety.

“Cutting off Ukraine is a stab in the back. Just like humiliating allies who fought and died side by side with us. Americans should be dangerous allies. So dangerous that the enemies of democracy, sovereignty, and free trade dare not doubt our commitments or our resolve,” McConnell added.

McConnell’s resignation

As is known, the senator’s political career lasted over 40 years, making him one of the most prominent figures in modern American conservatism.

Mitch McConnell has always taken a pro-Ukrainian position and supported providing military assistance to the country, as he believed that supporting Ukraine was the protection of not only European, but also American interests.

The politician announced his resignation as Senate Republican leader on February 28, 2024. He remained in office until November, when the Republican Party elected a new leader. At the same time, he remained a senator from Kentucky and continued to serve in the United States Congress.

Shamefulness, naivety, and despising democratic values are the essence of Trump and his racketeer cabinet.
America used to be great until the convicted felon entered the White House.
