According to the publication’s sources, repairs to the oil refinery could take at least a month.

Oil refineries owned by Russian company Rosneft in the cities of Sizran and Saratov have ceased operations following Ukrainian attacks this month, sources told Reuters .

Russia and Ukraine continued to strike each other’s energy infrastructure this week, despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the two sides had agreed to stop such actions.

“The shutdown of oil refineries will likely worsen the fuel shortage in Russia, which has already limited the export of gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation fuel,” the publication notes.

Sources said the drone attacks damaged several facilities at the Sizran Oil Refinery, namely the main CDU-6 crude distillation unit, which has a capacity of 17,100 metric tons per day, or about 71% of the refinery’s refining capacity.

The interlocutors added that repairs to the oil refinery could take at least a month.

“The refinery’s second crude distillation unit, CDU-5, with a capacity of 7,100 tons per day, or 29% of its total capacity, was undergoing repairs following a previous drone attack in July when the strike occurred on September 15,” the report noted.

Meanwhile, the Saratov Oil Refinery suspended oil refining on September 11 following another drone strike. Sources noted that the refinery also suspended operations on September 8 due to equipment damage and a fire caused by a previous drone strike, and was preparing to resume refining on September 10-11.

In addition, some industry sources reported that in 2024, the Sizran Oil Refinery processed 4.3 million tons of oil and produced 0.8 million tons of gasoline, 1.5 million tons of diesel fuel, and 0.7 million tons of fuel oil.

In turn, in 2024, the Saratov Oil Refinery processed 5.8 million tons of oil, producing 1.2 million tons of gasoline, 1.9 million tons of diesel fuel and 1.0 million tons of fuel oil.
