North Korea sent 7,000 containers of ammunition to Russia – South Korean Defense Minister

North Korea previously relied on ships, but is now increasingly using rail for cross-border arms deliveries to Russia.

North Korea has sent about 7,000 containers filled with ammunition and other military equipment to Russia since last year to support it in the war in Ukraine. According to The Times , this statement was made by South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik.

Earlier, US and South Korean officials accused North Korea of supplying Russia with artillery shells, missiles and other equipment, while both Moscow and Pyongyang deny the existence of an arms supply agreement between the countries.

At the same time, according to South Korean officials and private experts, in exchange for weapons, North Korea likely received desperately needed food and economic aid from Russia, as well as military assistance aimed at modernizing Kim Chem-un’s forces.

South Korea’s defense minister said North Korea initially relied on ships but was increasingly using rail to ship weapons to Russia across their land border.

But in exchange for sending perhaps millions of artillery shells and other supplies, North Korea received more than 9,000 containers of Russian aid, Shin said. He expressed suspicion that Russia could provide North Korea with fuel, contrary to UN Security Council sanctions that severely limit the import of oil and petroleum products into the country.
