New blow to Russia: India will not accept sanctioned oil tankers

Earlier it was reported that sanctioned tankers with Russian oil were stuck off the coast of China.

India will not accept oil tankers that the US has sanctioned for their role in transporting cargo for Russia, Bloomberg reported, citing a senior Indian official .

The official said that affected ships will not be allowed to unload. This does not apply to ships chartered before January 10, provided that they unload by March 12. Therefore, the impact of the sanctions could be felt in a few months.

It is noted that Indian banks will require certificates to ensure that raw materials do not come from sanctioned suppliers. At the same time, Indian oil refiners risk losing the discount on Russian oil.

Be that as it may, the situation is unlikely to become critical for Russia. According to a high-ranking Indian official, the Russians will still find ways to deliver their raw materials to the Indian buyer.

For New Delhi itself, the restrictions will not be a big problem either. The fact is that OPEC countries have 3 million barrels per day of spare capacity. In addition, suppliers that are not part of the organization can easily add the necessary barrels.

The official added that Indian oil refiners are already actively negotiating new agreements with suppliers from the Middle East.
