The secret services fabricated a letter on behalf of Greenland’s Foreign Minister Ane Lone Bagger.
Danish intelligence (PET) claims that in 2019, Russian intelligence services forged a letter that provoked US President Donald Trump to announce the possible purchase of Greenland .
As BILD writes , PET claims that Russian intelligence services fabricated a letter on behalf of Greenlandic Foreign Minister Ane Lone Bagger.
According to PET, the letter was allegedly addressed to US Senator Tom Cotton and included gratitude for “financial assistance” and an intention to speed up the referendum on Greenland’s independence from Denmark.
“In 2019, Donald Trump first said that the United States could buy Greenland from Denmark. According to PET, his statement could have been the result of a Russian provocation. Intelligence believes that Russian agents fabricated a letter on behalf of then-Greenlandic Foreign Minister Ane Lone Bagger to US Senator Tom Cotton,” the publication says.
As noted, the minister never actually wrote such an appeal. But after receiving the letter, Cotton made a proposal to purchase Greenland, which could have inspired Trump to seriously consider the idea.
According to Denmark, the falsification of the letter was part of a plan by Russian intelligence services to create discord within NATO and strengthen the positions of Russia and China in the Arctic.
“Back then, in 2019, the government in Copenhagen responded with ridicule in response to Trump’s words, and he angrily cancelled his official visit to Denmark. Now, ahead of his inauguration, Trump has once again voiced the idea of buying Greenland and even hinted at the possibility of using force,” BILD writes.
This time, the Danish government has taken a cautious approach. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has proposed deepening cooperation on Greenland, and the Ministry of Defence has announced plans to strengthen its military presence on the island.

There is nothing there that we can not easily buy or lease so there is no need to acquire and incur the huge monetary and political expense of ownership.
All this will do is divide NATO which is EXACTLY what Putin wants for little return.
You would think a supposed savvy businessman would see that.
Ridiculous, US presidents have spoken about trying to buy Greenland for 100 years.
