The defendants are a military father and son, they face life imprisonment.

Two men who were wanted in connection with the murder of a policeman and the wounding of another in the Vinnytsia region were detained in the Odessa region. This was stated by the head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vygovsky.

“Thanks to the coordinated work of the operational services, the location of the defendants was established – they were hiding in the Odessa region. The attackers were detained with the force support of the KORD special unit. The attackers were two military men, father and son, 52 and 26 years old, natives of the Vinnytsia region,” the statement says .

It is noted that the policeman, who died in the line of duty while protecting his partner, who was attacked first, managed to fire shots and wound the attackers. The circumstances of the incident and the motives for the crime are being established.

In connection with the attack, investigators began criminal proceedings under Art. 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – murder or attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in connection with the performance of his official duties. The sanction of the article provides for up to life imprisonment.

It is noted that the entire police force of the Vinnytsia region and neighboring regions was deployed to detain the attackers, and a special operation was introduced.

The police were shot on the night of April 20 in the Gaysinsky district of the Vinnytsia region. Law enforcement officers stopped a car in which there were two men. During the check, the attackers opened fire on the police. 20-year-old Maxim Zaretsky died from his injuries, and his partner was wounded. The attackers fled the crime scene.

The operational command “South” confirmed that the suspects serve in one of the military units: more than a year ago they served in the 28th separate mechanized brigade named after. Knights of the Winter March, but at the time of the crime they were serving in another military unit.

Subsequently, it became known that a vehicle used by the suspects was found in the Vinnytsia region . Also at the same place they found ammunition that belonged to military property.
