Moscow court releases four drivers involved in “Pavutiny” (Spider Web) case due to lack of evidence

The Moscow City Court on September 16 released from custody four drivers accused by Russian investigators of involvement in the SBU’s “Web” operation. The court refused to extend their detention, and the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office had previously returned the case for additional investigation due to insufficient evidence.

The drivers were accused of colluding with the SBU to transport Ukrainian drones deep into Russia in their cars, which later attacked military airfields. The court found the evidence of their involvement insufficient.

Drivers claimed they were unaware of drones hidden in their cargo

The drivers have pleaded not guilty. They claim that they were on a regular flight and knew nothing about the drones hidden in the cargo. After the UAVs began to fly out of the bodies, they themselves called the police and tried to shoot down the drones.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation found no direct evidence of the drivers’ guilt

The Investigative Committee of Russia has completed its investigation into the Operation Web case and transferred the cases to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

At the same time, a petition was sent to the court to extend the arrest terms for the truckers.

However, First Deputy Prosecutor General Anton Razinkin did not confirm the charges, stating that there was no direct evidence of the drivers’ guilt, and that there was not enough indirect evidence, and returned the case for investigation.

The court, rejecting the investigation’s request, decided to release the drivers.

SBU special operation “Website”

On June 1, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine carried out special operation “Web” , launching a massive drone strike on Russian strategic aviation airfields.
Subsequently, the SBU clarified that the estimated cost of the enemy’s strategic aviation , which was hit as a result of the SBU special operation “Website”, is 7 billion US dollars.
On June 3, the General Staff clarified that as a result of a special operation by the Security Service of Ukraine conducted on June 1, 2025, 41 Russian military aircraft were hit .
A number of media outlets also reported that Ukraine did not inform the administration of US President Donald Trump in advance about the SBU’s special operation “Web” on Russian airfields with strategic bombers.
According to the Telegram channel Shot , four truck drivers were detained after the SBU attack on Russian airfields. In the Ryazan region, the truck driver was 47-year-old Sergey Kanurin, in the Murmansk region – 56-year-old Oleksandr Zaitsev, in the Irkutsk region – 62-year-old Andrey Merkuriev.
