More than 12 thousand people sent appeals to the Investigative Committee demanding that the body of Alexei Navalny be returned to his loved ones, reports the human rights project OVD-Info. The project called for sending appeals to the Investigative Committee on the evening of February 17.
“Only solidarity will help achieve justice for Alexei Navalny and his family now. Yesterday, OVD-Info launched a collection of appeals to the Investigative Committee: together with you, we are seeking the extradition of Alexei’s body. In less than 24 hours, more than 12 thousand people sent requests through the Woodpecker service ,” writes the project.
Human rights activists also emphasized that the release of the body should happen as soon as possible. “Alexey Navalny, at least after death, should be with his relatives. The investigation into the circumstances of his murder should begin as soon as possible,” human rights activists added.
The politician’s press secretary, Kira Yarmysh , reported on February 17 that the Investigative Committee refused to release Navalny’s body to relatives until the verification was completed. According to the coordinator for criminal cases of the human rights project “OVD-Info” Eva Levenberg, the verification can take up to 30 days. At the same time, OVD-Info clarified that the body may not be returned for longer: “In addition to the inspection, there is an investigation of the case, and within its framework, the decision to release the body is made only by the body conducting the inspection.”
